ABOUT THE WORLD
ADASTRA
ADASTRA
Even though it's more generally used to describe everything outside of Peraspera, it's actually the name of the world as a whole. Similiar to the online game Poptropica, Adastra consists of medium-large islands that each are home to a unique fairy tale. Islands can usually be found in clusters based on not only the type of story the land was the center of, but also by geography. As an example, the stories and setting of Rapunzel and Snow White are similar so their islands are closer to each than Snow White's would be to Agrabah.
As a result of each island functioning separately from each other, there is no set capital of this world, but instead, there are main islands. Three of the biggest are those belonging to King Phillip, Adam, and Henri as their stories had the biggest impact on our world. They're considered the largest cities of this world and the three kings often consult each other on what's best for Adastra on a whole.
The only other main island is the one that hosts the academy itself. It used to be a home to other smaller stories that didn't have a single or weren't popular enough to warrant their own island. This includes Melody Time, Robin Hood, and Fantasia among a few others. However, the Fairy Council later created separate islands for these stories so the academy could function without the influence of a particular island. There is one city on the island, Memoria City, and its main purpose is to serve the students. To the north though is Atlantica Lake and in the warmer months, many various heroes and royals can be seen lounging on its shores.
PERASPERA
No one went near the island for many years after that. There was no reason to until the war broke out and it became the only neutral island in Adastra. Using this to their advantage, the three Kings tricked the villains into believing that this forgotten island was their army's stronghold. Eager to claim a quick victory, the villain's army attacked the island, but instead of running into the kings, they came face to face with the Fairy Council. Before the villains could retreat, they built the barrier that still stands today. Now the island has developed a culture of its own built on malice and hatred amid the crumbling buildings. All the original villains are trapped there permanently, but the children get to leave in order to attend the academy. However, nothing stands forever, perhaps one day the barrier will crumble and unleash these evildoers on the land of Adastra once again...
FAIRY COUNCIL
Consisting of the Blue Fairy, Fairy Godmother, Flora, Fauna, Merriweather, and Merlin, this council is considered to be the true leaders of Adastra. As they are the embodiment of both all that is good and wisdom, they're trusting to give advice in regards to what is best for Adastra. They were the ones who convinced the three most powerful kings to establish the academy and allow the children of Peraspera to attend. So, as a result, they are the guardians of the school, ensuring that everything runs smoothly and the children are receiving the best education they can give, regardless of who their parents are.
For the first few years that the school was open, all of them were very hands on in the day to day affairs. Under their wing, those students were encouraged to explore various roles in their world and determine who they wanted to be. However, as the years have passed, many of them have come to take on other responsibilities that keep them away from the school. In their absence, the interim administration wasn't comfortable with the idea that the children of their sworn enemies were being taught how to be like heroes. They feared that the villains could use this against them in the future if they stayed in Adastra or if they ever escaped from the island. So quietly, and slyly, they started to narrow the options for classes that students could take and so far the Fairy Council hasn't caught on. But it's only a matter of time before they do.
ARCHETYPES
There are several archetypes that a character can fulfill:
1. Guardian (Fairies, Mentors, etc)
2. Prince/Princess
3. Hero (Non-Royal Protagonists)
4. Hero Support
5. Villain Support
6. Villain
These archetypes are based solely who their parents are. (For the sake of simplicity, if your character is the child of two categories, they'll be in the same group as their more memorable parent.) Students are encouraged to fit into their archetype as perfectly as possible. For the heroes, this really isn't a problem, but it is for the villains and the sidekicks who want to stay in Adastra. If they're only being taught how to cast curses instead of the ethics of the land, it could be near impossible for them to prove to the Council that they have been "reformed" and deserve to stay.
This is causing tensions to rise among the villains and it doesn't help that it's mixing with prejudices from both sides, passed down from biased parents. There's already cracks beginning to form and students from different sides are avoiding each other like they have the plague. This won't end well for either side.
