It was one of the nicer days of the past couple weeks. The sun was high in the sky, but the wind allowed a cool breeze to flow through the courtyard keeping it from being stuffy and humid. Lily dragged herself over to a bench in the corner of the courtyard. The same one she normally visited when she felt to claustrophobic and needed to feel the sun on her face. It happened more often than she would care to admit. There was just something freeing of being able to sit here with no expectations. The wind coursing through her hair as the sun kissed her skin. Lily was mostly just happy to be back at Memoria. Not that she hadn’t enjoyed her summer break. It was great being able to see her mother and father. It was just that Lily tended to find home less and less appealing as time went on. Studying the history and laws of her Kingdom kept reminding her that one day she would be the one to lead them, and she was definitely not ready for that. She wasn’t sure she ever would be. Her father had fought so hard for the throne to be passed to her and not her brother that she felt bad if she complained to much. She was grateful that he was past the idea of a King having to be the one to lead, but it meant that she would have to give up more than she realized at first. It was her birthright though, and eventually she would have to accept that and move on. For now at least she hoped that she could focus on the bright side. Lily was back at school, a place she loved, with some of her best friends. Of course she was also surrounded by the children of villains. ‘No.’ She reminded herself she was to focus on the positive. Looking around the courtyard it was sparser than Lily had expected it to be. Most of her classmates probably hadn’t arrived yet. They still had a couple days until school started. Thank goodness, because as much as Lily loved school she wasn’t ready for more studying. Slouching back onto the bench she watched as people began to come in and out of the courtyard. Some just breezing through others stopping to talk with friends. Lily only vaguely recognized most of them. In fact a few looked they were first year. Just like her brothers would be this year. Despite their distant relationship she was happy they could finally join her here. This was actually the first time she had felt content in a while. She just hoped the rest of the day would stay like this. NOTES: First post yay WORDS: 455 [googlefont="Lobster"][googlefont="Lato"]

[break] The day had thus far been a bit of a disappointment to Bess as she wandered the grounds of Memoria. Everywhere her dark orbs looked it seemed that there were open spaces void of people. And a lack of people often meant that there were fewer adventures to find when she was on her own. Was it great to go out and find something new? Absolutely! But it was soooo much more fun when you were able to share that experience with someone else. It was a feeling that Bess had come to miss after being parted from her brother.
She ran a hand through her brown curls as she stepped a little further out into the grounds, breathing a soft sigh. This was likely to be one of the last nice days that they got before the autumn weather would give way to winter, and Bess wanted to take advantage of it. There had to be something out there...something that would take her beyond the walls of the school for just a little bit!
As if in answer to her prayers, that was the moment that Bess spotted a familiar blonde on a nearby bench. ”Lily!”
Elizabeth had known Lilian since the two of them were small children. With royals as parents, it was almost impossible for the two of them not to have met and socialized. Playdates and royal gatherings like weddings and christenings had often seen two little girls sitting near one another, and though Lily had always done her best to behave herself while in the presence of the courts, Bess had been the child who squirmed in her seat despite her best efforts. Lily had been the calming influence in public. Bess had been the wild soul when their parent’s backs were turned.
Quick steps took her over toward the bench, allowing the girl to slip quietly onto the end of it as she moved in close to the blonde. ”Why do you look like you’re just sitting here soaking in the sun when you could be out on some great adventure?” she asked her, eyes shining with mischief. If there was anyone who might be persuaded to come and join in the chaos with her, she was fairly certain that it was Lilian. After all, if she was going to be the heir to her kingdom, she needed to have a little bit of fun before she was weighed down by endless duty, right? ”Are you all settled back into school then? I think your brothers are supposed to be starting this year, aren’t they?”
That as going to be chaos incarnate, and Bess simply couldn’t wait until the two young Princeton boys were running around the halls of Memoria. They played off of one another like no tomorrow, always looking for something fun to do. And if one of them could get into trouble, you knew that the second one wasn’t all that far behind.

Lilian’s peace was broken by a familiar voice. Turning to look at the person who had joined her on the bench she saw Bess. The world renown disturber of peace. “Of course, you’d be looking for an adventure.” Bess had always been the ringer leader growing up. Getting Lily into all sorts of mischief. Not that she really minded. As much as she understood how important is was to be prim and proper. It was also good to have fun. Bess made sure that she did that. Leaning over Lily moved towards Bess for a hug. It had been a while since they had seen each other. At least in this close personal setting. Sure there had been balls and other royal events during the summer, but Lily felt like her had to be her royal self during those, and not her true self. Lily hated having to be around her friends during those events. She felt like she was lying to everyone by not being her true self. “Yeah. I’m pretty sure I got everything sorted.” Lily had spent most of the morning attempting to make her room tidy. Not that it would pass her mother’s inspection but that was the nice thing about being at school she was under her own rules, and not her parents. Here she could just be herself without the added royal expectations. “How about you? Excited to be back?” While Lily loved school and Memoria the same couldn’t be said for everyone. There was a lot of other students how hated the schoolwork and lack of freedom. But this place was Lily’s freedom. “I’m a little surprised Mom let them come.” Lily knew how hard it had been for her mother to allow her out of her protective watch, and into the world where anything could happen. Especially while they were going to school with villains. Lily remembered how hard her mother had pushed for her to reject the invitation for one more year. She guessed seeing her oldest daughter attending classes without falling under any curses had helped pursue her. But she couldn’t imagine her mother with an empty nest. What would she even do. Despite her mother’s loneliness Lily was excited for her brothers to finally be away from home. She just hoped the school was built to withstand those two. Lily had been a fairly outgoing and wild child but she had nothing on those two. Who knew what they were going to do without the watchful eye of her mother. “This place isn’t going to know what hit them.” “So what are you plans for today?” Knowing Bess she would be in search of a great adventure or trouble of some sort. It was one of Lily’s favorite part of her friend. And as much as Lily had been enjoying her quiet, she had been looking for an opportunity to go exploring. Even after three years her it seemed every year on her hikes she found some new undiscovered spot. Maybe her and Bess could recreate their secret hideout from their childhood away from the school in one of the quieter parts of Memoria. Not that she knew what they would do with it. Previously it had been used to get back at her brothers for whatever stupid prank they had decided to pull on them. NOTES: First post yay WORDS: 557 [googlefont="Lobster"][googlefont="Lato"]

[break] The brunette giggled. ”Do you honestly expect anything less of me?”
Bess slid a little closer and easily wrapped her arms around the younger girl, hugging her tightly. Lily had been one of her best friends growing up, so much so that Bess had often written her letters after they had been pulled apart and taken back to their respective kingdoms, just so that she felt like she still had a friend somewhere else in the world. In her own way, she had become a sort of calming influence on Bess over the years. Sitting at formal functions and receptions was often hard to do when your spirit was restless and in need of an adventure. But Lily’s presence had provided some stability for her. And the sparkle in her eyes had almost always promised that the two of them would be able to embark on some kind of journey soon...even if it was only down to a familiar spot by the creek for a few hours before they had to return, knowing that they had been missed.
”Would it pass Queen Aurora’s inspection?” she asked in her teasing tone. She knew quite well that Lily’s mother was a little more...firm, than some would have thought. In that way, she reminded Bess a lot of her father. One minute they were this happy and nurturing parent who wanted their child to be happy and healthy. The next they were a little colder and more closed off than before, insisting that they learn their place in the succession or the family tree or whatever other nonsense they decided to spout. ”I’m afraid my things look a little more like Mother’s library. The books aren’t in their proper place yet.”
Now that was a sight to behold. On her best days, Queen Belle had a beautiful library that was simply overflowing with books. It had been a gift from King Adam, back before the curse had been broken and they were still dancing around one another with unrealized affections. She always took such pride in it, keeping it free of dust and in proper order. But on days when things were a little more...intense, the library could sometimes look like a bomb had gone off.
There would be books on every visible surface of the room, including stacks on the floor. Any time there was strife within the castle, that was where one could find Belle. And often, it became a guessing game as to who would step inside and be able to help pull her from her thoughts. Somedays it was her older brother. Other days it was Lumiere. Every so often it was Bess herself who would move through the heavy wooden doors and go searching for her mother. But more often than not, it was always her father who needed to go in, close the doors behind him and speak softly to his wife until she was able to think clearly again.
But Bess quickly gave her head a shake. ”Did your father have to convince her?” she asked, pushing herself to find that vein of conversation again as her dark eyes began to refocus on Lily. ”He did a pretty good job in convincing her that you needed to come, as I recall. Maybe knowing that you’d done so well up to this point was his argument to let your brothers start too.” King Philip had always been a proud advocate for the education of his children. And he probably understood the idea that they needed to get out of the kingdom for a while before Aurora smothered them with her overprotective love. But Lily was certainly right...once the Princeton twins started, Memoria would never be the same.
The sparkle returned to her eyes. ”I don’t really have any plans,” she confessed. ”But I put everything upstairs in the dorm and I’ve been restless for a while. I needed to go for a walk or something...and then I found you! You lucky thing,” she added with a cheeky grin. ”You’re not planning on sitting here all day are you? You’ll get a horrible sunburn if you do that.”

“I’ve missed you.” Lily admitted as she pulled away from the hug. Despite have seen each other a few times this summer it hadn’t been the same. Bess was one of Lily’s closest friends. One of the few people she could tell anything too. The times that they had been able to see each other were some of Lily’s favourite memories. Not that she had much time for activities this summer, with her studies and shadowing her father during his political trips. At least when Bess was around her father allowed her to put her studies on the back burner for a day or two. Thinking back on the state Lily had left their dorm room she could practically feel her mother’s disappointment. “I doubt it.” Lily wasn’t even sure how her room at home passed inspection. She was pretty sure that her mother had given up at some point. Not that she wasn’t still strict about how clean their rooms must be, but she had definitely lowered her expectations after the times were born. In fact her parents had relaxed a lot of rules after the twins were born. Thank goodness because she wasn’t sure if her brothers would be able to survive with how their parents had been before. They barely managed now.“Great.” Lily answered rolling her eyes with fake exasperation. She had visited Belle’s library a few times, and wasn’t looking forward to going back to their room if Bess had left their room in similar state. Growing up with a mother like hers had made visiting Bess’ home feel like visiting another world. Not that it’s wasn’t clean, but it was clear Belle was much more relaxed about the tidiness of the manor. It was nice to be able to move freely through the house without worrying about having to clean it all back up. It was part of the reason Lily liked hiking so much. Nature didn’t follow rules. It was dirty and unruly and did was it wanted no matter what. It was beautiful. Bess seemed to disappear from the conversation for a moment. Lily had seen her do this before. She was stuck in her own head. Trying to sort something out or deal with one problem or another. “You okay?” Lily asked her friend. It always worried her when Bess got like this. It made her feel like her friend was in pain, and Lily didn’t like that. She wanted Bess to be as happy as possible. She deserved it. “I’m starting to think you know my family better than I do.” Lily laughed. She enjoyed having a friend that knew and understood her and her family in the same way that Bess did. It was likely because of the years of friendship. Bess had been a part of her life for as long as she could remember. “I think it was more likely her not wanting her babies to leave the nest then actually worry.” Much different than it had been when Lily had gone away from school. Lily knew that her mother had lost a lot of sleep worrying about her going to the same school that many villains own children went. The day that Lily had actually left her mother had had a breakdown. She knew that her mother’s overprotective nature came from the trauma of her own childhood, but Lily was glad her father had been there to help convince her mother that it was best for their daughter to go out and experience the world, good and bad, before she had to lead it. Besides the school was protected by many guardians. At least with her brothers she had already let one child. It was just hard because they were her babies. Once they were gone there was no one left to care for. “You don’t think red is my colour?” Lily laughed. They both knew that with Lily’s fair skin she had to be careful about how long she could sit out in the sun. More than once she had been lost in her own world exploring forests or beaches only to wake the next day with a painful sunburn. “Actually I was thinking about taking a hike.” Lily figured that Bess would enjoy exploring their school grounds and the surrounding island as well. It was better than sitting her all day discussing her family.NOTES: Alrighty let's do this WORDS: 730 [googlefont="Lobster"][googlefont="Lato"]
